Introduction

Users of multimedia language data face two problems at the moment: they can't share data because different tools use different data formats, and they can't mark up data with annotations that have complex structures, or combine two simple-structured annotations on the same data, because the data representations employed by the tools at best allow for trees. NXT is a set of libraries and tools that provide for the native representation, manipulation, query and analysis of such data.
